Many of us postpone seeking outside help until we feel no other recourse. Some fear that it is a sign of weakness but therapy requires courage to move towards things that trouble you. Finding strength through the process allows you to move more assertively throughout your world.
Exploring our problems through talking to a trained professional is the courageous first step towards personal empowerment and emotional growth. Stress or symptom reduction is often noted after even making the first call. A counselor can provide support, education, creative solutions, and guidance.
With counseling, we can achieve a greater understanding of ourselves, how to deal with others more effectively, and how to move beyond the problems stemming from our past. Break long-standing patterns of behavior. We all get stuck and learning new ways of dealing with challenges frees us from feeling embedded in our past. Finding a solid, objective source of support and feedback can broaden our awareness while giving us insight where we can live our life on our terms.
Learn about the impact of how we think and how this connects with our biology, influencing our feelings. Understanding how these areas interact while learning ways to work with our own resources can create positive change and greater joy.
Certain periods of life call for the guidance of an objective party:
"Maintaining comfort zones can be misleading. Taking the personal risk to feel uncomfortable pushing beyond our comfort zones, while learning to accept ourselves as we are, is the most worthwhile journey"
Common Questions
How long do you go?
Ideally, counseling is terminated when the problem that you pursued counseling for becomes more manageable or is resolved. My profession is unique where I teach you how to be your own resource and I step out of the picture. The goal is to learn better strategies to deal with what life throws your way.
How often do we meet?
Initially seeing your counselor weekly may be recommended, then progressing towards less frequent meetings. This can be discussed and is flexible based on finances and what each unique client presents. No client is the same and you will be in charge of the flow of our work together.
Can therapy really create change?
Therapy can actually change the way your brain operates for the better. New evidence supports that counseling can create neural growth beyond tangible changes that you can see.
